Sandra Sarasola unveils her exhibition Transits 17 years of work, which are brought together in 12 projects that coincide with different stages of her life, in which sometimes past and present, intersect and dialogue. For the artist, Art is the means for sincere and intimate expression. This allows her to explore, present and transmit, from a personal and gender perspective, what she feels about situations or everyday experiences.

In the same way that Louise Bourgeois considered that “art is a guarantee of sanity”, in which the monsters of the unconscious are freed through the creative process, Sarasola, through the infinity of objects that she has been creating over the years, liberates and lets flow all the liquid of the unconscious. Sometimes dark and other luminous, distilled slowly, leaving remains that become in of themselves, transformative.

Transits is a retrospective exhibition in which the Madrid-based Asturian artist, works with and from the guts of her life’s journey. On this passage, she explores her parent´s past in order to understand her own. This then becomes the point of departure to reach the present. After having made stops and reflections along the way, she is led to her most significant life themes which coincide with the distinct projects that she shares with us.

Time as a concept is shredded in each piece and each project acts as a palimpsest of the previous one, making visible where it comes from at the same time as it prepares for its later course. Time, like the sword of Damocles, which points out stages that are ending or that inevitably will begin to appear (fertility, dreams, fears, fragility). Time, which shows her status as a woman in the world and above all the feelings that are discovered and digested from these processes of assimilation.
