13 ESPACIOarte takes part of Festival OFF by PHotoESPAÑA 2020 presenting the Interiores series from the artist Kae Newcomb.

Interiors is a series of black and white analogue photographs of sculptures made with menstrual tampons. The images evoke early 19th century still life photographs that used objects, compositions, and the symbolic use of light and dark to create meaning. In these images, the tampons appear like buds, flowers, rockets, and bouquets in undefined interior spaces.

Through a sober presentation, the project plays with the conventions and formal aesthetics of photography, symbolically turning shame into pride. The photographs are digitally printed with pigmented inks on Hahnemuehle paper and hand-painted with watercolors.

Kae Newcomb is a multidisciplinary artist. Her work investigates themes related to change on a personal, social and political level. She works with ephemeral materials and processes. She creates installations and drawings in situ as well as works in sculpture, photography, video and artist’s books. She studied Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York (SVA) and received a Masters of Fine Arts at the University of the City of New York, Brooklyn College. (CUNY).
