Theoretically, I understand, but in practice I still
Can’t dissolve myself in 0 and 1 when the cultural tradition that constructs me
negated a physical body that I am still not the owner of…
I’m on this… I am becoming aware…
I believe that art is the ideal vehicle for
step by step, gaining understanding of what configures us
in order to find, as far as is possible
new ways to construct oneself.
Anamusma is the alter ego of Ana Vazquez, a visual artist who is especially interested in the interaction between the biological body and the cultural body, and also in the construction/deconstruction of identity, especially gender identity. Biological inheritance, Religion, popular folklore and especially the figure of the Mother are recurrent themes in her work. Trained in sculpture and art/artisan practices, her projects are closely linked to the object. In many cases these objects are charged with symbolism and meaning through both private and participatory actions with the material used in the configuration of the pieces.
